When do people REALLY change?

it is inherent in us to be lazy. people are satisfied with living the lives that they have, simply because standing still has no fear, it is all known to us, but moving forward, into the unknown, thats what fear is. lets take a simple example here: you just came home after a long day when everyone got on your nerves, you messed up on a big scale, your kids are being brats, your parents are being righteous, your partner is being whiny. and then you settle on that big couch, with your favourite drink and relax. thats the place in our lives all of us are at. on that big comfortable couch. now heres the question, what would make you move from that couch? under normal circumstances we are so comfortable in the known that there is nowhere that we want to go from that couch. but, if you were to, lets say sit on a pin. that would make you jump up immediately. the understanding that i drew from this is that until things get very uncomfortable for us, we are unwilling to make a change. but why is it that it is this way. because this way we are in familiar territory. we are the victims, and we can take advantage of the situation. why move when everything that is comforting and familiar is right there with you. this is the emotional payoff that is associated with they way we are. satisfaction, knowledge and the feeling of being the victim so we can get the attention and crib. here's another question. if i were to give you a glass of pure mineral water and tell you to drink it you would. but if i were to mix one drop of gutter water in it, and then give it to you, you would reject it outright. if you cannot stand that one drop of sewage in what you put into your water then why are you so tolerant of the sewage that you put into your body everyday? all the anger the negativity the unexpressed emotions and stagnation. what is it if not sewage? understand how uncomfortable you really are, realize that there is a pin that is poking you and while the emotional payoff of being uncomfortable maybe great, the rewards and the happiness associated with making that change are even greater. so begin by identifying your pin, take a small step to move forward. whats your small step to improve your life today? leave a comment! -N
